Allgates Brewery

Thursday, 3rd August 2006 became a momentous day for Ian and Donna at The Anvil in Wigan…..after months of hard work, patience, and lots of red tape, beer from their very own Allgates Brewery began to flow at their pub in Dorning Street, Wigan. As such, Allgates became the third Wigan brewery following on from Mayflower and Rosebridge.

Bank Top Brewery

Bolton, Lancashire
Bank Top Brewery was established in 1995 by John Feeney with the original building being situated at Back Lane in Bolton. Our first beer, Samuel Crompton's Ale was launched a the Bolton Beer Festival in October 1995, and the first ever pint was pulled by actor Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth). The brewery name originated from John's dream of converting the old tennis pavillion at Bank Top into a brewery.

Beartown Brewery Ltd

Beartown Brewery is situated in the historical Cheshire market town of Congleton which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and aquired the nickname "Beartown" from an infamous incident in its history. After being granted Borough status in 1272 the three most senior positions within the borough were those of The Mayor, The Ale Taster and the Bear Warden - whose job was to oversee the bear baiting which unfortunately took place at the fairs within the town.

Deep in the heart of the Happy Valley, one man has been blending a concoction to put Bollington back on the brewing map. The Vale Inn, on Adlington Road, has launched its own beer making company, almost 80 years after ale production ceased in the town at the Heavers Brothers’ site on Dyers Close. With just 150ft between the Bollington Brewery Company’s base and the Vale Inn, landlord and chief brewer Lee Wainwright, 35, says his new business venture is working a treat.

Burton Bridge Brewery

Burton-on-Trent, Staffs
Burton Bridge Brewery takes its name from the Burton Bridge over the River Trent at Burton-on-Trent. It is situated twenty yards from the end of the present bridge. Built in the late 17th Century as the Fox and Goose Inn, the old bridge finished just outside the front door. Remains of the first two arches are still there but buried under the road. An even earlier bridge probably existed in Roman times, the connection being carried through to the present time by XL Bitter.

The company was established in 1991 following the closure of the Greenall Whitley Brewery which had a presence in Warrington since 1762. The town's brewing heritage has been continued by ex-employees committed to the brewing and supply of hand-crafted cask conditioned fine ales. Situated close to the town centre on the north side of the River Mersey, Coach House provide a regular supply service throughout the country via our many National and Regional Wholesale Distributors and through direct deliveries into Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Manchester, Staffordshire, Shropshire, West Yorkshire and North Wales.

The present Falstaff Brewery was conceived by Messrs. Parkes following the purchase of the property adjacent to the Falstaff Freehouse. This property consisted of a house with a number of industrial outbuildings. During the summer of 1999 the original 1903 workshops were restored and adapted into a brew-house.

Frederic Robinson

Our brewery takes its name from the Unicorn Inn which was bought by William Robinson on the 29th September 1838. This stood on what is now the bottom yard in Lower Hillgate, Stockport. William was joined in 1865 by his younger son Frederic, who started to brew beer for other local hostelries and his first customer was Mrs. Lamb (Bridge Inn, Chestergate). On the 3rd May 1876, shortly after his fathers death, he bought his first house the Royal Scot, Marple Bridge (then the Railway Inn).

David Hughes, a brewer of over 20 years brewing experience, has installed a purpose built, modern Microbrewery. This efficient system will produce a range of Traditional Real Ales using our own unique Lancashire milltown brewery yeast, to tried and tested recipes. Happy Valley Brewery will only use the finest, freshest ingredients always locally sourced where possible. Our first ale Sworn Secret which recently won Gold Best Overall Beer at the Stockport Beer Festival 2011 was first produced in October 2010, closely followed by Lazy Daze and then Black Magic.

The space in the cellar of the pub and its backyard enabled John Gilbert to begin brewing quality ales for sale at The Wyndham Arms.

Milton Brewery

Milton, Cambridgeshire
Founded in June 1999, in Milton, a village on the outskirts of Cambridge. The Milton Brewery is the first brewery in the village since the Essex Brewery closed in 1921. The genesis of the Milton Brewery occurred high in the Karakorum Mountains of Northern Pakistan when Tony Brooks and Richard Naisby met. Tony was cycling across Asia raising money for charity. Richard was writing a travel book. By the time they left the Islamic Republic of Pakistan beer was becoming an issue.

Moorhouse's Brewery (Burnley) Limited

Burnley, Lancashire
When William Moorhouse founded Moorhouse’s in 1865, in premises not far from the present production site, on the opposite side of Accrington Road, he produced mineral waters, which were sold in bottles and half-gallon jars. By 1870 the business was doing so well that William decided to build his own premises and relocated to the building that we occupy today. This brewery was purpose-built as a drinks-manufacturing site, with the terraced houses on either side being added later to house workers and members of the Moorhouse family. In its original layout, incorporated into the brewery buildings were the stables in which the delivery dray horses were kept.

Northern Brewing

Northwich, Cheshire
Having established Northern Brewing in August 2003, its founder Col (thats Colin not Colonel) Stubbs spent the next few months acquiring the brew plant and associated equipment, premises and a delivery vehicle. All duly found, the brew plant was installed in an industrial unit in Runcorn, Cheshire, which was to be Northerns home for the next two years. The first ever brew, a Northern 45, appeared in late-December 2003. Col had spent much of 2003 acquiring knowledge in both the technical and commercial aspects of the micro-brewing business at the now defunct Beecham\'s Brewery, which was then part of St. Helens College.

Peakstones Rock Brewery

Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
The idea of a brewery came to being during a Sunday lunchtime pint with a friend. A visitor to the Peak District asked the Landlord for a pint of the local beer, but he was unable to produce any. After much discussion it was decided that what was needed was a micro-brewery to start in the area. After much investigation and planning a location was offered by a local farmer at Peakstones Farm, Alton, Staffordshire. The brewery now had a name, which was taken from the Peakstones rock that is located nearby.

Initially opened in August 1982, based in an industrial estate in Ellesmere Port. In need of additional space, a move to the current location was carried out in 1991. This new location had been a brewery from the mid 1800s until closed by Bass in the 1960s. In 1996 it took the decision to trade as the name of the brewery Phoenix Brewery.

Burslem was the Mother town of the Potteries and had many great names who had started their careers amongst the bottle kilns and smoke. Wedgwood, Doulton and Claris Cliff all served their apprentices here dedicated to bringing the world the finest china. In Etruria just down the road Captain Edward John Smith was born. He would go on to command the world's most famous liner. It is in honour of him that the brewery was named.
